Healthy hair is the dream of practically every woman (and man…this is the age of the metrosexual, after all). Achieving hair that is healthy is not as difficult as it is usually made out to be. The only thing it needs is a bit of conscious help from our side.
The first thing to remember about hair is that no amount of conditioners, shampoos and serums can give it the healthy glow that a good hair-friendly diet can. Hair is as much a part of our body as any other, and consequently draws its nourishment from within. A healthy, balanced diet is the best nutrition you can give your hair. A diet rich in vitamins (Vitamin E is excellent for hair) and minerals can help minimize hair loss. Eating green leafy vegetables, oats, eggs, etc in your daily food regime can go a long way in ensuring your hair’s health.
Your washing routine is the next most important thing for the good health of your hair. A good shampoo, a good conditioner (and by ‘good’ we mean the kind that is good for your particular type of hair) and frequent washing is an essential step in maintain good hair health. But it is also important to remember that ‘frequent’ does not mean shampooing everyday. Two or three times a week is adequate say hair stylists. On days that you don’t shampoo, you could simply rinse with water and condition only your ends.
The next most important thing is to keep styling to a minimum. Blow drying, curling irons, straightening irons, hair colour, highlights…we could go on, but you get the picture. While it is important to keep your hair styled and good looking, it is important to remember that these cause immense amounts of damage to hair. Heat and chemicals can contribute to making hair dull, dry, and brittle. Use hair products wisely and style hair as little as possible. As someone once said, natural is the most beautiful way to be.
