A few days back I received a very clever comment on hair loss:

‘Dear all, unless we stop taking tension, and stop worrying about small things in life the natural remedies won’t work. I mean a person must be happy, stress-free, eat lots vegetables and reduce junk food. So first take care internally and then externally. It’s my opinion. Love, Neetu.’

I couldn’t agree more. Stress or worry is one of the biggest causes of hair loss. It literally squeezes the life out of your hair follicles and results in hair loss.

And that causes you more stress. So it’s a never ending cycle and you got to break free from it. So how do you do it?

I have battled hair loss and been through all the pain, anger and worry. But that is precisely what you shouldn’t do, as it will not help.

The only way you can get your hair back is by not getting upset or fussed about hair loss. This doesn’t mean you stop caring for it. You care, but not get obsessive about it. Not look into mirror ever hour and check whether your hair has grown or not.

I have learnt it hard way. I know it’s not easy to not worry, but you got to give it a try.

I will give you 3 tips that have helped me regrow my hair, and I am positive they will help you too. They are very simple to follow but need a little practice. So here are 3 tips to Stop hair loss permanently….

Love Your Hair And Make It Grow Thick: 3 Things That Worked For Me
1. Avoid the Negative Chatter
Yeah yeah. How is that possible? When you’re losing tons of hair and start to feel ugly and think no one’s going to like me, or what will my friends think. That is exactly when you must let go of hair mania and accept yourself the way you are. Acceptance doesn’t mean you give up. It means you are at peace with reality.

On some instances your friends or family may make fun of your hair, call you various names. But you stay unmoved, calm and composed.

But most of the times it’s not the friends that are calling you names, it’s you. In fact most of the time it’s you. You look into the mirror and start feeling unloved. You even curse your hair or yourself for doing certain things that may have caused hair loss.

This ain’t going to help. You got to stop the negative talk if you want to save whatever hair you have.

One way to calm down instantly is by bringing your focus to your Breath. You will notice that it is shallow and fast. Sit on a chair and start to focus on your breathing. Just watch your breath go in and out. Do that for 5 minutes or so.

This will help you reconnect with your present work and will break you from Oh my poor hair or victim cycle.

2. Let Go

Let go of the idea of perfect hair.

I will tell you my story: When I was suffering from hair loss, it made me really upset. I wanted my thick and shiny hair back. I would surf the net endlessly to find a miracle cure. But there was none. I was trying so many things at a time.

But when nothing was working I slowed down. I did just one or two things that I thought would help my hair. To my amazement, new hair started to grow. I was overjoyed. But then after some time I was getting worried what if I lose my new hair. And that really stressed me out. My worry came true, I did lose the new growth. This actually happened 3 to 4 times.

After going through the heart(hair) break a few times I realised this whole thing is stopping me from leading a normal peaceful life. And I made up my mind: I will take care of my hair without being too attached to the result. If it grows fine if not I will buy myself a nice wig. It’s just hair and I am not dying without it.

A few months after that a miracle happened, just when I stopped being mad about my hair It started to grow back. And my hair got healthier and thicker.

Though it may sound simple, Ajahn Chah’s advice speaks volumes.

There will never be a time when life is simple. There will always be time to practice accepting that. Every moment is a chance to let go and feel peaceful.

3. Be Happy Now and Enjoy Your Life

We always postpone our happiness to tomorrow.

We look at happiness as something that will come after we achieve certain thing: If I get gorgeous hair that turns heads I will be really happy. Or if I get: a nice home, a perfect partner, the dream job… I will be truly happy.

But when we get these goals, instead of being happy and celebrating our achievements, we are often looking forward to being happy when we meet our next goal.

Happiness is not something that will happen to us if things go well. Happiness is here, now, with things the way they are, with your hair thick or thin.

Reminds me of this beautiful quote by Swami Satchidananda

When you go after something hoping that it will make you happy by getting it, you have already traded away your peace.

Do you want to be happy now? Practice gratitude.

Be grateful for what’s in your lives. It helps us to appreciate all the beautiful things we already have, and what we have received, and the people who love us or who have helped us.

Spending time in nature is another great way to connect with peace and happiness. Go take a walk each day in a park or woods. Or find a water body – pond, lake, river, sea – and spend some time taking a look at it.

When we look at nature we never think oh this tree should be a little slim or it should have more branches, we accept it the way it is. Love it the way it is.

So why be so harsh on over selves? Don’t be. You are just perfect and your hair is beautiful the way it is….
